We were contacted directly by the maths teacher Mrs Downing at St Lawrence’s Primary School in Byker, Newcastle upon Tyne to discuss methods of improving the numeracy skills of the children at her school using playground markings.
We designed both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 playgrounds to include a collection of numeracy games and targets.
Once these markings were agreed the school were keen to add a number of GF Signature Games to be used during playtime as well as PE lessons. We provided a training day for the teachers, children as well as the dinner staff to show them how each game was used.
We were given a virtual blank canvas by headteacher Mr Seagrove to design the playground markings for both the keystage 1 and keystage 2 play areas. We designed the playground to include a combination of traditional games, re-lining existing sports pitches and a collection of GF Signature Games.
A training day was arranged to show the teachers, dinner staff as well as the children how each of the new games could be used. We were impressed by some of the children who had already made up their own games incorporating the new markings.
Mrs Craig, the headteacher at St Godric’s RC Primary School in Durham was impressed by the markings we installed at a neighboring school. She contacted us to design a bespoke playground based on PE and the recent Olympic games.
We designed four new games, the Olympic Legacy Games, involving running, throwing and jumping. These games are now included in our product range and have proved to be very popular.
After installation we carried out a training day involving all the children and staff, which was a great success.
We have recently been instructed to design and install a range of playground markings for the infant school based on a similar theme.
